Climate Change Impact on Smallholder Farmers
In late 2015, Nile Point assisted the Adaptation Thought Leadership and Assessment (ATLAS) project supported by USAID Food for Peace (FFP) and managed by Chemonics to address ways that development assistance can help vulnerable households affected by climate change. ATLAS aims to improve the quality and effectiveness of USAID’s and countries’ development programs to reduce climate risks through tested and harmonized approaches to adaptation assessment; thought leadership; and capacity building of USAID and its partners. The final report will guide FFP implementers and prospective project applicants in ways to integrate climate risk screening into their programs and provide practical examples of the kinds of adaptation strategies that can be implemented. The review drew from literature pertaining to climate variability and change risks and climate change adaptation strategies that may be associated with typical FFP program activities.
